How to Clean a Water Pipe (Bong)
Here’s how to clean a glass bong or water pipe with Green Piece, an alcohol-free (no isopropyl) cleaner with a fresh orange scent. It’s reusable, so you pour it back in the bottle when you’re done.
Made with orange peel extract in a citrus and mineral-based formula. Non-toxic, environmentally friendly and alcohol-free (no isopropyl).
What you need
- Green Piece cleaner
- Warm water
- Nylon brushes (tube and mini brushes)
- Silicone plugs, or a sealable bag or jar for small parts
- A funnel to pour the cleaner back
Steps
- Remove the bowl and downstem and set them aside to soak separately (a sealable bag or jar works).
- Empty the old water and give the pipe a quick warm-water rinse.
- Plug the mouthpiece and downstem opening with silicone plugs or a gloved hand.
- Pour in enough Green Piece to cover the stained areas.
- Let it soak, swirling or gently shaking every few minutes.
- Use a long tube brush on the neck and a mini brush inside the downstem.
- Pour the used Green Piece back into the bottle through a funnel. The liquid is reusable, so keep it for the next clean.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water until no cleaner or loosened residue remains, then let the piece air dry.
Soak time
A few minutes for light residue; up to about 8 hours for heavy buildup.
Rinse
Rinse with warm water until no cleaner or loosened residue remains. A drop of dish soap is optional. Let the piece air dry fully before using it.
Tips
- Percolators and ash catchers do best with a longer soak and a gentle shake rather than hard scrubbing.
- Change your water often between cleans so buildup stays light.
